Leitmotiv
SuART is an international event of an interdisciplinary scientific, institutional and artistic nature, conceived by art critic Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico, consisting of a conference and a solo exhibition by a contemporary artist.
In an attempt to delineate the different declinations of the notion of “sustainability of art,” which is in continuous semiological evolution and increasingly the object of attention in the last two decades by institutions, philosophers, sociologists, academics, sector professionals and artists, a twofold objective is pursued. On the one hand, we want to investigate the creative languages and promotional modes of contemporary art productions in the digital age, both public (museums, governmental and local cultural institutions, etc.) and private (galleries, private art foundations, auction houses, web system, etc.). On the other hand, it is intended to highlight and analyze the related aspects of legal regulation and economic-financial dynamics by taking the EU guidelines as a basis with a focus on the legal systems of the countries of the participating university/institutional partners.
A separate focus is devoted to the territorial enhancement impact of digital art promotion with a discussion among institutional players from the selected territories.

On Monday, May 27, 2024, 09:30-18:00, the Pontifical University Comillas in Madrid in collaboration with the University of Milan (Department of Private Law and History of Law) and the University of Florence (Department of Legal Sciences) is organizing the event entitled “SuART 2024. Sustainable Art 2024” conceived and directed artistically by art critic Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico, and academically by José Luis Rey Pérez (professor of philosophy of law at the Pontifical University Comillas in Madrid).

The event consists of a conference on the sustainability of contemporary art in the digital age, with a focus on related legal, economic, and socio-philosophical aspects, as well as of the solo exhibition by the artist Antonietta Viganone (27.05.2024 – 10.06.2024), curated by Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico and organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Antonietta Viganone in Milan, chaired by Francesco Fabbiani.

SuART is an international interdisciplinary scholarly and artistic event conceived by art critic Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico on an annual basis, consisting of a conference and a solo exhibition by a contemporary artist.

In an attempt to delineate the different declinations of the notion of ‘sustainability of art’, which is in continuous semiological evolution and has been increasingly the subject of attention over the last two decades by institutions, philosophers, sociologists, academics, sector professionals and artists, a twofold objective is pursued. The event includes the solo exhibition by the artist Antonietta Viganone (No. 27 artworks) from May 27 to June 10, 2024.

Antonietta Viganone (Borgolavezzaro (NO) il 16 dicembre 1928 - Milano il 27 giugno 2022) carries out artistic studies in architecture (Politecnico di Milano), painting (Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, Domenico Cantatore school) and engraving (Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, with master Luciano De Vita). She teaches artistic disciplines at high schools and secondary education institutions.

In the sixties of the last century, she married the publisher Franco Sciardelli (Palermo, 1933 – Milan, 2015), with whom she also maintains a deep artistic and cultural partnership.

Since 1958 she has been working with all the chalcographic techniques and with lithography, and has created over 500 works, using the most accredited printing houses (including Sciardelli, Upiglio, Bandini, Campi, La Spirale and Il Foglio of Milan).

She also brilliantly engages in painting and sculpture, creating more than 200 works of art. She creates the stele in memory of Marshal Chief Cross of Honor Daniele Ghione, victim of the terrorist act in An Nassiriya (Iraq) on 12 November 2003, permanently exhibited in a public place in Finale Ligure (SV) and inaugurated in 2004 in the presence of various institutional authorities.

She is the author of illustrations and engravings for artist books, also promoting literary works by great personalities of the culture of the ‘900, including Leonardo Sciascia.

She participates in exhibitions and events of international importance, including the Milan Engraving Triennial (Editions: I, 1969; IV, 1980; VI, 1990; VII, 1994), the III Biennial of contemporary xylography of Carpi (1984) , the Xilon Italiana Triennale of Genoa (1995), the V International Exhibition of Chalcography “Black and White” of Modica (2000), the International Biennial Exhibition “Grafica ed ex Libris” (Editions: X, 2011; XII, 2015), the II Edition of the Woodcut Competition “Ugo Maffi – City of Lodi” (2014).

Her works are acquired as part of the heritage of important cultural institutions, including the “Parisi – Valle” Civic Museum in Maccagno con Pino and Veddasca (VA), the Central Library of the Sicilian Region “Alberto Bombace” in Palermo, the Library of the “Giorgio de Marchis Bonanni d’Ocre” in L’Aquila, the Sormani Library in Milan, the Museum of Contemporary Chalcography “Le Due Matrici” in Modica (RG), the Xylography Museum in Carpi (MO), the Civic Collection of “Achille Bertarelli” prints in Milan, the “A.S. Pushkin” in Moscow (RUSSIA).

In the last months of her life she decided to donate her artistic and real estate assets to a testamentary foundation (registered in the RUNTS on 15 September 2022), which, in addition to holding and enhancing the collection of artworks by Antonietta Viganone, carries out research, training, communication and promotion in the field of contemporary art.

Raffaele Caccavo (lawyer, supervisory body of the Viganone Foundation) and Barbara Minisini (certified public accountant, auditor of the Viganone Foundation) will also be present at the opening of the exhibition.

Suart 2024, which enjoys the patronage of the Osservatorio ADR, 100 Amici del Libro Association in Milan, Ethicando Association in Milan, is promoted in the media by Betting On Italy (BOI), Beesness Magazine, Estro Digitale.
